Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Becomes ILC’s Final Founding Partner

Recently, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora DONs (Directors of Nursing) Group universally endorsed Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora to take up the invitation from the International Learning Collaborative (ILC) to become their seventh and final Founding Partner.

Chief Nurse and Director of Patient and Whaanau Experience, Dr Jenny Parr (Counties Manukau District), has been involved with the ILC since 2008. Founding Partner status was offered to Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora because of Dr Parr’s contribution to the ILC and her championing of fundamental care.

Dr Parr said, ‘Taking up Founding Partner status with the ILC provides a number of financial and non-financial benefits that situate the public health system of Aotearoa New Zealand as a global leader of care as a strategic imperative.’

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora DONs are committed to working in partnership with the ILC across the system to improve care.

National DONs want the nursing profession to meet the fundamental care needs of patients in an integrated way where establishing relationships first and each time there are patient interactions is consistently achieved. This is a cultural imperative in Aotearoa New Zealand and aligns with the fundamentals of care framework.

‘There is a need to refocus care on establishing relationships, integrating physical, psychosocial and relational care within the context of care to meet the fundamental care needs of patients in Aotearoa New Zealand,’ said Dr Parr.

The Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora National DONs group have endorsed taking up ILC founding partner membership to support more engagement across the country. The purpose of this is to become more organized and informed in order to prioritise improvements in the delivery of relationally focused, integrated holistic care within the context of care.

Founding Partnership of the ILC is offered to a limited number of organisations who have been supportive of the ILC since its inception, and who have made a significant contribution to the organisation over the years.

ILC Founding Partner membership demonstrates an organisation’s ability to recognise and respond to the imperative need for the Fundamentals of Care to be expedited globally. The ILC’s Founding Partner organisations receive international recognition as trailblazers and innovators in the Fundamentals of Care community.

The ILC looks forward to working with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora on our journey to transform care globally by valuing and prioritising person-centred fundamental care.
