Global Care Summit

In Oxford in 2026, the ILC brought together key thought leaders and influencers for the 2026 ILC Inaugural Global Care Summit.

This meeting brought together clinical, education, policy and research leaders across the globe to collectively influence the care economy debate. The idea emerged from discussions at the 2025 ILC Conference in Genoa, Italy, and subsequently with economists and international nursing leaders during 2025 and 2026. The care economy debate has been gaining momentum following the publication of the World Economic Forum’s discussion paper on the Global Care Economy in 2024. The ILC wants to build on this work to shape the future course of action.  The Summit’s goal is to develop a common agenda for improving the care outcomes for patients and care partners, and for supporting and valuing the global nursing and care workforces.  

 

The International Learning Collaborative (ILC) has been shaping the international care agenda for over 15 years, developing nursing and care professional leadership,  advocating locally and globally for the prioritisation of person-centred fundamental care. We know from the work of our ILC members across 20 countries and three continents, that care systems which value and prioritise a focus on person-centred fundamental care are able to solve many of the most pressing challenges for health, aged and community care globally.  

 

The invitees, attendees and our global expert team are working on a bold statement and strategy for driving forward the agenda for promoting a care economy that values person-centred fundamental care. 

 

As a direct result of the Summit, the Journal of Nursing Inquiry has a call for submissions for a special issue on Transforming the Care Economy. Editor in Chief Sally Thorne was a participant and has chosen to continue the debate on this important topic.
