Teaching Nursing as a Science – Integrating the Nursing Process, Language, and Care Provision through the Fundamentals of Care Framework
The education workshop will explore the proposition that nursing is a scientific discipline. Participants will discuss and develop key principles and statements to provide structural coherence to Nursing Science across countries.
This workshop will suit anyone involved in teaching nursing and other care professionals, including senior academic educators through to clinical supervisors in practice settings.
Key perspectives to be introduced include:
- Core constructs of the metaparadigms of nursing: care/nursing, person, health, and environment
- Coherent problem solving (the Fundamentals of Care Practice Process and the Nursing Process)
- Creating a common language
- Mutual engagement between students, patients/consumers, other professions, and institutions
- The role of clinical supervisors using the Fundamentals of Care Framework in relation to nursing students
- Generating new knowledge through an evidence-based structure
Learning Outcomes:
- Discuss how to teach nursing as a scientific discipline
- Demonstrate increased confidence in articulating a coherent educational architecture that integrates:
- Core constructs of nursing (care/nursing, person, health, and environment)
- The Fundamentals of Care Practice Process and Nursing Process as structures for clinical reasoning
- A common language to support shared communication
- The Fundamentals of Care Framework as a relational, integrated, and contextual foundation for practice
